撇號 x’ (x prime)

撇號，又稱上標點、省略號、略縮號、省字號、省年號、高撇號或縮寫號，是一種標點符號，用於英語的縮寫詞、複數。形式是高撇號（’），加在縮寫字詞的左上方。英語文字中的撇號叫做 apostrophe[əˈpɒstrəfi] ，用法：

• 省字號，表示詞的一個或多個字母的省略，例： it is略爲it’s；
• 所有格符號，表示英語的名詞和某些代詞的所有格，例：Mary’s dress瑪麗的服裝；
• 複數形式，例：five 6’s 表示5個6；
• 略音符號，例：'cause表示because一詞中的be音節省略。

數學、物理學中的撇號讀作 prime [praim], 例如 x’ 可讀作 X-prime，兩個、三個撇號就叫 double prime 和 triple prime。
