GIMP 2.8 is released–Install it in Ubuntu 12.04 (Precise Pangolin)

With nearly 3 years of development work, GIMP 2.8 is finally released, and this brief tutorial is going to show you how to install it in Ubuntu, including 12.04. As expected, GIMP 2.8 brings many new features and fixes, such as better look and feel, multi-column docks windows, and the ability to create and set layer groups.

To get started, press Ctrl – Alt – T on your keyboard to open Terminal. When it opens, run the commands below to add its PPA
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:otto-kesselgulasch/gimp
 
gimp_precise
 
Finally, run the commands below to update and install GIMP
sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install gimp
 
gimp_precise_1
 
Enjoy!
 
gimp_precise_2
 
If you already have Gimp installed and you want to upgrade, run the below commands first before upgrading.
sudo apt-get remove gimp-plugin-registry
