時至今日，linux還是有很大的侷限性，非計算機專業人員想用它還真有點困難。而現在windows成了計算機學習的標準，人們大都用慣了windows，都習慣了那上面的特性，再換其它操作系統的時候都會下意識的跟windows作比較，就會感覺它有這樣那樣的問題。就使得linux普及遇到很大問題。
linux用的版本也不少了，不過都沒用多長時間。 因爲平時工作都是用的windows上面的軟件，而在linux下大多數都不太兼容。真正用的時間長的是做上個工程的時候，那個工程的工控機裝的是turbolinux dataserver 7.0+sybase，很古老的一個版本，不過可以在那上面直接安裝kylix3，沒出任何問題。後來做技術支持，不用到處亂跑了，公司給了兩臺電腦，於是就一臺安裝windowsXP，一臺安裝FC5(玩)和turbolinux(實驗用)，驚喜的發現FC5上能遠程登錄windows桌面，很長時間沒接觸過這個了，沒想到都有這個東東了。於是平時就用FC5，遠程登錄windowsXP處理工作。
前些天安裝了一個gentoo2007，還需要再裝中文支持，好麻煩。於是換了ubuntu，這個對中文支持安裝很簡單，而且軟件升級也很容易，雖然升級得到的不是最新版本，不過一般來說也用不着最新的吧，就好象現在都出vista一年了，而大多數人還是用得XP。不過ubuntu跟gentoo是桌面就是一個模子裏出來的，不知道認抄了誰的：）
廢話太多了點。首先是安裝，在網上有很多安裝教程，我是從硬盤上安裝的，從光盤安裝讀光盤太慢。推薦一篇文章：Ubuntu 7.04 (Feisty Fawn) 安裝（硬盤安裝）與配置圖文指南。先下載安裝盤ubuntu-7.04-alternate-i386.iso，硬盤安裝需要的啓動文件initrd.gz和vmlinuz，需要注意的是這是X86的啓動文件，如果是AMD64就要換一下，它們不能通用的，否則安裝基本系統的時候會提示光盤中找不到文件，下面給出下載地址：
這裏最大的問題就是需要grub，不象FC可以直接從dos下安裝。下載個grub4dos，解壓從dos下運行grub.exe進入grub,按c鍵調出命令模式，輸入如下命令：
kernel (hdx,y)/vmlinuz root=/dev/ram0 ramdisk_size=256000 devfs=mount,dall
initrd (hdx,y)/initrd.gz
boot
其中的(hdx,y)裏的x,y要根據實際情況來改。
另一種方法是把下載到的壓強包裏面的grldr和menu.lst兩個文件拷貝到C盤根目錄中，修改menu.lst文件，留下三行：
color black/cyan yellow/cyan
timeout 30
default /default
把其它的內容刪掉，加入下面內容
title install Ubuntu7.04
kernel (hd0,1)/vmlinuz root=/dev/ram0 ramdisk_size=256000 devfs=mount,dall
initrd (hd0,1)/initrd.gz
boot
然後修改boot.ini，在[operating systems]下面加上一行：
c:/grldr=ubuntu
OK，準備工作已經做完，重啓電腦，選擇ubuntu啓動安裝
下面就是按照提示安裝，最危險的是在分區的時候，要是對這個不瞭解最好找個比較瞭解的人幫你吧。
在最後複製文件的時候會在85%上停一會，網上有人說最好拔下網線，但是根據我的實驗並不是這樣。在提示是否下載語言支持的時候先否，如果你是一直在線的，那麼在安裝過程中設置好網絡，那麼在85%這兒只停很短的時間就過去了，這樣安裝完成後進入ubuntu界面就是中文的，但是沒有輸入法等支持。如果你是ADSL，需要撥號，那麼在這裏需要停20分鐘左右，安裝完進入ubuntu後要設置撥號才能上網，界面不是中文，這樣看來是在安裝過程中停的那段時間是從網上下載了一些簡單的語言支持，如果網絡不通就會重試等待，停的時間就長了，就是選擇了不下載語言支持也不行，這不知道是怎麼回事，不過我沒試過先下載會怎麼樣。
安裝完成後有很多需要安裝支持包，用apt-get命令，或者用軟件源圖形工具都可以很方便的安裝。這裏要說的是在安裝某些包的時候會讓你插入光盤，可是我們沒有光盤，怎麼辦？從網上找了下沒見到有說這個問題的，不知道是因爲太簡單了還是怎麼回事，其實這裏只要把下載的安裝盤mount到/media/cdrom中就可以了。
在用的過程中，要編譯從網上下載的源程序，可能會提示缺少某些包而不能安裝，這時候就要手動安裝這些包了，還是用apt-get install命令，輸入包的前幾個字母連按兩下tab鍵，會列出以這些字母開頭的包，從中找到你需要的補齊就可以了。
mount和apt-get等很多命令都要root權限，所以在前面加上sudo，會提示要密碼，輸入你在安裝過程中創建的用戶的密碼就可以了，當然你也可以進入系統後用passwd root命令修改root密碼。
再就是軟件更新源，就用歐洲官方源就可以了，我的是網通adsl，用清華、臺服源都慢的要死，而且出錯
