The latest trade figures from China show that while the value of the country's exports in September was lower than a year ago, the rate of decline has slowed, a sign that demand for Chinese goods is improving. The two cities had earlier expressed strong interest in bidding to host the Games. Formal bids are due at the International Olympic Committee on Thursday. The official Xinhua News Agency said Harbin was turned down by China's sports governing body because it lacked the required infrastructure.
