Common Diagnostic steps for Windows XP

1.      Removing all the stored user identities

2.      Uncheck the malicious ActiveX component

3.      Uninstall the non-standard programs

4.      Run program in compatible mode

5.      Check Event log

6.      Check file/folder Permission settings

7.      Check Service running status

8.      Check User group permission

9.      Run msconfig to check auto run programs

10.  Run AutoRun to check auto Run programs

11.  RUNAS user accounts to see problem if still exists

12.  Restore default folder settings

13.  Restore default system settings

14.  Login as other user accounts see if problem still exists

15.  Recreate user profile

a.      Backup Outlook profiles and settings

b.      Backup Registry settings

c.       Perform system restore point

16.  Degrade to work group and then rejoin domain again

17.  Reinstall SP2/SP3

18.  Hardware checking
